The hallmark of Graham’s Port wines is a very rich, complex and sweet style, but by careful selection and blending of the extraordinary variety of wine lots produced by our five quintas, our winemakers are able to create an outstanding range of wines, each with its own unique character.

White Ports are made from traditional Portuguese white grape varieties, including Códega, Malvasia Fina, Rabigato and Viosinho. The grapes are vinified with very little skin contact and are aged just a few years in large oak casks, to preserve and enhance their refreshing fruit flavours. Ready to drink when bottled, they should be served chilled, and if securely re-corked and kept cool, they will be pleasurable for a couple weeks.
Graham’s Fine White Port is fresh and delicate sweet port with appealing grape and almond flavours and a gorgeous pale, golden colour. Chilled, it is a refreshing aperitif or enhances light, simple sweet desserts.
Graham’s Extra Dry White Port has a pale yellow colour and is very dry, with fruit and floral hints on the nose, and a long crisp finish. Makes an excellent aperitif served ice cold, or made into a long drink with tonic and a slice of lemon, again ice cold.
Tawny Ports are made by blending a wide variety of wines of various ages, all of which have been aged in small oak “pipes” to develop secondary flavours of dried fruit and nuts. Due to the natural micro-exchange of oxygen through the wooden casks during the aging process, the colour of these wines changes from the original deep purple-red to lovely tawny shades, ranging from a cedary red-gold to a deep golden amber according to age. Tawnies are ready to enjoy when bottled and released, and will retain their character for several weeks after opening, if re-corked and stored in cool conditions. Serve at a cool room temperature or slightly chilled.
Graham’s Fine Tawny Port is an interesting alternative to ruby for every day drinking, with a slightly lighter and drier style and the introduction of nutty flavour notes. Reddish tawny in colour, with ripe fruit aromas balanced by hints of dried fruits and nuts, this wine has a slightly dry, elegant and smooth sensation on the palate.
Graham’s The Tawny Reserve Port is blended from wines which have been aged 7 to 9 years in cask. A deep golden amber wine that is rich and complex with a soft aroma of toasted almonds and hints of orange peel and spice. The enticing flavours are full and generous with a long, decadent finish.
Graham’s 10 Year Old Tawny Port has a fine deep classic tawny colour. Complex nutty aromas combine with hints of honey and figs, and on the palate rich mellow fruit flavours and a balanced structure lead to a luscious long finish.
Graham’s 20 Year Old Tawny Port is characterised by great complexity and harmony. The wine has a beautiful amber golden tawny colour, and an excellent bouquet of almond and delicious mature fruit with hints of orange peel, all exquisitely mellowed by careful ageing. Rich, sweet and smooth on the palate, it is perfectly balanced, with a long and lingering finish.
Graham’s 30 Year Old Tawny Port shows its age in a light, orange-tinted amber colour, and a magnificently perfumed nose of dried fruits. The palate is outstanding with full honeyed fruit, gorgeously matured and mellowed. Simply delicious with an aftertaste that lasts and lasts.
Graham’s 40 Year Old Tawny Port is a golden amber with a pale green tinge at the rim which denotes great quality and class. The nose is very complex with a powerful fragrance that belies its age. The palate is a gamut of flavours, ranging from delicate fruit and raisins to burnt toffee and chocolate. The persistent after-taste is sheer pleasure.
Our Ruby, Crusted, LBV (Late-Bottled Vintage) and Vintage Ports are all made by methods that preserve the deep red colours and rich fruit flavours of the grapes. They are aged for only a few years in huge oak casks of tens of thousands of litres to minimise the effects of wood and oxygen on the wines. Ruby and crusted ports are blends of wines from several years’ harvests, whereas LBV and vintage ports are made strictly from the produce of a single year which will be prominently identified on the bottle.
Ruby, LBV and Crusted ports are all ready to drink when bottled and released, though a crusted port will hold and develop its character in a laid-down bottle for several years. Whilst there is a growing trend to enjoy vintage ports whilst still young, dense and powerfully fruity, laying down and ageing in the traditional manner for some years will reward the drinker with a truly thought-provoking glassful of aromas and flavours ranging across fruit, floral, herbal and earthy notes. Perhaps invest in a case and open a bottle every few years to explore and enjoy the ageing and taste trajectory?
Vintage and crusted styles should be carefully decanted to eliminate the natural precipitate of colour and flavour matter which is thrown during ageing in bottle. All of these styles of port can be served at a cool room temperature. Crusted and vintage ports should be savoured within a few days of opening, whereas our ruby and LBV styles will hold their quality for a few weeks if re-corked.
Graham’s Fine Ruby Port is bottled young so as to retain the assertiveness of the fruit, a recognisable Graham’s hallmark. The wine has a very deep ruby colour, the nose is intensely aromatic and redolent of the ripe red and black fruits which you will find on the palate, with an excellent balance and intense finish. This is a port for every day, at any time.
Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) is a wine of a single year, made in years when no formal “Vintage” is declared. Whereas vintage port spends only two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is aged in casks for four to six years, then bottled after a light filtration. Our 2003 LBV has a deep and almost opaque ruby colour. Both nose and palate are of stunning intensity, the nose of red and jammy black fruit aromas, the palate full bodied and robust with an exceptionally velvety and well-rounded structure, leading to a complex and fruit-driven finish. Graham’s LBVs are ready to drink on release, and do not need decanting.
Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port is blended to be as similar as possible to a young vintage port, and is often referred to as “the everyday port for the vintage port drinker.” Dark red in colour, with a seductive rich perfume of ripe plums and cherries, the palate is a complex blend of fruit flavours, with a good structure and a long lingering finish.
Graham’s Crusted Port is a blend of excellent young ports from two or three harvests, which are bottled without any fining or filtration. Note that by trade legislation only the bottling date is featured on the label. This port is aged in bottle in our cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia for three years before being offered for sale. Although excellent to drink at the time of release, crusted port will age gracefully for several more years in bottle, and continue to develop the magnificent bouquet and flavour which is unique to bottle matured wines. Our 2002 Crusted Port has a deep ruby colour and the nose is a complex aroma of black fruits and hints of mint and eucalyptus. On the palate, this is a full bodied and well balanced port with a fine tannic structure, leading to a long and lingering finish.
Graham’s Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port is a vintage port made solely from the grapes produced at our legendary Quinta dos Malvedos in the heart of the Douro region. This single quinta vintage port is made in years when conditions are not conducive to a general vintage declaration. The 1999 vintage has a gorgeous bouquet redolent of chocolate, mint and spice. The palate is both luxurious and lusty, showing cassis and layers of blackcurrant and black plum. Big and bold but in a very polished, attractive manner.
Graham’s 2007 Vintage Port is our most recently released vintage port, and is a classic example of the Graham’s style. The winemaker’s own notes describe it thus: Very profound and intense deep purple colour. Rich and complex floral aromas of violets and eucalyptus from the Malvedos and Lages Touriga Franca give a very special elegance to this wine. Very attractive rich blackberry flavoured fruit with excellent texture. The sheer power, weight, complexity and balance of this wine guarantee its longevity.
